Global sports provider Eleven Sports has today announced a long-term partnership with Unilions Pro Baseball Team in Taiwan to show all their fixtures in the hugely popular domestic competition, the Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL).
The partnership means that fans in Taiwan will be able to enjoy every match from two of the four teams in the CPBL as Eleven Sports also holds rights to defending champions, the Lamigo Monkeys, who are now going for a third championship in row.
The new agreement is aligned to Eleven’s strategy in Taiwan of providing local content that is relevant and popular for domestic fans. This approach is backed up by a similar deal Eleven secured with local basketball team the Formosa Dreamers in 2017.
Eleven Sports can also reveal that its Taiwan service enjoyed 50% growth in viewing ratings and 88% growth in market share in 2018. This includes 44% growth in viewing figures for the Lamigo Monkeys.
The strong growth in these key metrics further reflects the success of Eleven’s strategy in Taiwan.
Simone Kang, Managing Director of ELEVEN SPORTS in Taiwan, said:
“Our aim is to meet un-met demand and make locally relevant sports content readily available for fans in Taiwan. We are very pleased to see our local approach reaping the rewards with significant growth in viewing figures and market share.
“Following on from the ground-breaking success of the Taiwanese baseball team the Lamigo Monkeys, we are pleased to build on our strategy by bringing more premium action from another leading domestic team. Baseball is very popular in Taiwan and we are looking forward to collaborating with Unilions to expand their reach and grow their fanbase amongst loyal sports followers across the country.”
Tai-An Su, General Manager of Unilions Pro Baseball Team, said:
“We are very excited to partner with ELEVEN SPORTS to showcase the action from Unilions games.
“We understand their strategy to promote the action on-air, online and via social media and we see synergies that will enable us to work together to create a successful team and build a loyal following across the country.”
In addition to premium domestic content, Eleven Sports subscribers in Taiwan have a front row seat English Premier League, NBA, ATP Tennis, FA Cup and much more.
