ELEVEN SPORTS has struck an innovative partnership with Facebook that will see the social media platform become ELEVEN’s free-to-air (FTA) partner in the UK and Ireland.
As part of the agreement, at least one match per week from both LaLiga and Serie A will be shown live and free of charge on ELEVEN SPORTS’ UK Facebook Page. A selection of games from the other top-flight football leagues available on ELEVEN SPORTS will also be shown on Facebook across the season.
Select matches shown on Facebook will include those featuring the world’s biggest clubs such as Real Madrid, Barcelona, Juventus and Napoli, and best players including Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Antoine Griezmann.
Ronaldo’s eagerly anticipated Juventus debut is one of the opening games selected for live streaming on Facebook. The games to be shown LIVE on ELEVEN SPORTS’ UK Facebook Page across the first two weekends of the LaLiga and Serie A seasons will be:
(All kick-off times BST)
- Friday 17/08 - Girona v Valladolid (7.15pm)
- Saturday 18/08 - Chievo v Juventus (5pm)
- Monday 20/08 - Valencia v Atletico Madrid (7pm)
- Saturday 25/08 - Valladolid v Barcelona (9.15pm)
- Sunday 26/08 - Inter Milan v Torino (7.30pm)
ELEVEN SPORTS will also show the first two rounds of the 2018 PGA Championship, Aug. 9-10, in full, live on Facebook in the UK and Ireland.
In-game highlights and clips, weekly review shows, and much more socially-led content will also be published on ELEVEN’s Facebook Page to help drive interaction and engagement among the legions of sports fans in the UK and Ireland.
“By making Facebook our free-to-air partner, we are giving our leading content centre stage projection, opening it up to new and diverse audiences, and confirming again our innovative leadership in the global sports media industry,” said Danny Menken, Group Managing Director, ELEVEN SPORTS. “In all our global markets we want to be where the fans are. We aim to serve fan communities and develop interaction and engagement around our content, while ensuring we are always accessible and easy to reach. Our unique free-to-air partnership with Facebook helps us to do this as part of our fresh and contemporary approach to distribution.”
“We're excited to build on our strong relationship with ELEVEN SPORTS by becoming the free-to-air home in the UK and Ireland for a selection of its live broadcasts this season,” said Rhys Beer, Facebook Live Sports Programming Lead, EMEA. “This partnership reflects our commitment to helping broadcasters reach new audiences, build their brands and deliver a great viewing experience for sports fans on Facebook.”
Today’s innovative tie-up is aligned to ELEVEN SPORTS’ ‘For the Fans’ strategy which the platform has successfully implemented across its global markets, bringing fans closer to the action by making select events widely accessible and freely available. Live streaming big game football on Facebook has proved successful for ELEVEN in its other markets worldwide. During the 2017/18 season, ELEVEN SPORTS live streamed the Bundesliga match between Bayern Munich and Bayer 04 Leverkusen for fans in Poland; and the Ligue 1 game between PSG and Caen in Belgium.
A full and comprehensive service, which will include the content on Facebook as well as many more leading fixtures and events throughout the year, will also be distributed via ELEVEN’s soon-to-be-launched online streaming platform.
In addition to providing this premium content on the ELEVEN SPORTS online platform and free-to-air on Facebook, ELEVEN is also in discussions with other major platforms in the UK and Ireland to offer the widest possible access to the world-class action available on the service. This is in line with the ‘platform agnostic’ approach ELEVEN SPORTS employs in all its international markets, making it as easy as possible for fans to stay close to the sport they love.
